Martha: You should sit down for your Thanksgiving meal at this time.

Every family has a quiet discussion about the best time to serve dinner on Thanksgiving. Others plate the turkey even before the parade’s confetti settles. Martha Stewart has spoken out about the best time to sit down and eat Thanksgiving dinner.

When is Martha Stewart the perfect time to have Thanksgiving?

The @todayshow suggested that #Thanksgiving start in the afternoon, rather than at dinner. What time is your Thanksgiving dinner? Original sound from TODAY show #TODAYShow

A clip that was shared online shows a woman squatting on a bench. Today’s ShowMartha’s TikTok explained how serving Thanksgiving Dinner at 2 pm helps to keep everyone from feeling rushed. She says, “People are starting to gather around the kitchen because they’re hungry.” If you’re expecting a lot of guests to arrive, it is not advisable to wait till nighttime. Then you can watch the game and drink more, then eat later.

Sincerely, it’s hard to argue with Martha on anything. This is the one area where I’m willing to break ranks. I was raised in a household where we always ate at one o’clock. It has bothered me ever since that Thanksgiving is so late. Dinner Never happened near the dinner time. Since I started my family, our dinnertime is usually around 5 pm. We can relax, play, cook, or hang out all day.

This is What our Editors and readers Think

What I ask the Enjoy a Taste of Home The answers to our team’s question about Thanksgiving were all over the map. Editors said that their families eat Thanksgiving dinner around 4 pm, but they graze on appetizers throughout the day. One night-owl said that their family will not sit down for dinner early, whether it’s a holiday or otherwise.

When we asked the same question on Facebook, our readers’ responses were equally varied. Does the best time to eat lunch be 2 or 3 pm, because “you’re still hungry from breakfast but don’t have any dishes to do until after 10pm”? You might agree with someone who says to wait until 4:00 p.m., because “everyone will be gone by 7 o’clock and then you can enjoy the deliciousness of leftover turkey sandwiches” (or any other recipes). Some people insist on 1 pm, but others wait until the end of the parade.

A reader summarized the situation in a manner that every cook can understand: The dinner happens after all of the hard work has been done.

There is no one universal time for Thanksgiving. Each household will have its own pace, so the time that allows you to enjoy Thanksgiving is best.
